IPL 2013 season: MI play RCB in its opening match
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2013 season is scheduled to start from 3rd April to 26th May 2013. The 76 match, 51-days competition is the high-octane club cricket T20 tournament in the world which brings out the best of the best in the players as well as franchises.
For the inaugural match, 2012 winners’ Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Delhi Daredevils at their home ground - Eden Garden Kolkata on 3rd April.
Mumbai Indians will open its campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore on 4th April in Bangalore. The first home match for Mumbai Indians is scheduled on 9th April against Delhi Daredevils at the Wankhede Stadium. The remaining seven home matches for Mumbai Indians are scheduled as i.e. MI Vs PWI (13 Apr), MI Vs RCB (27 Apr), MI Vs KXIP (29 Apr), MI Vs CSK (5 May), MI Vs KKR (7 May), MI Vs Sunrisers Hyd (13 May) and MI Vs RR (18 May).
The tournament will be played in the same format as the 2012 edition. Each of the nine participating teams will play the other eight twice, at home and away basis. The top four teams, at the end of the round-robin stage on May 19 will qualify for the Playoffs.
The Qualifier 1 and Eliminator games will be played in Chennai on May 21 and May 22 respectively. The Qualifier 2 encounter and the Final, will be played at the Eden Gardens on May 24 and 26 respectively.
The 2013 season will be played in as many as 11 venues this time. The nine home venues apart, matches will be played at two arenas that will be making their ODI debuts in January. The last two 'home' games of the Kings XI Punjab will be played at the HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala, which has hosted seven IPL matches since 2010. The Jharkhand State Cricket Association International Stadium Complex at Ranchi, will host the last two 'home' games of the Kolkata Knight Riders.
