DD vs MI – Match Report

By Mumbai Indians

Delhi Daredevils maintained their impressive record at Feroz Shah Kotla by defending a competitive total of 165 runs as they beat Mumbai Indians by 10 runs. MI lost this closely fought encounter which did not seem the most likely result during the course of the game.

Rohit Sharma had an impressive record of 559 runs against DD before today’s game. He did continue his run off form and bettered this record as he anchored the MI chase. The hit-man scored 65 off 48 balls which included 7 fours and 1 six. Rohit’s unpleasant dismissal in the last over shattered all hopes of an MI win. Delhi Daredevils turned the tide around with some tight bowling and brilliance on the field. The run-outs of Parthiv Patel, Krunal Pandya and Rohit Sharma were not a pretty sight for any MI fan. MI did put their best foot forward with Ambati Rayudu and Krunal Pandya coming good. However, the scores of 25(23) and 36(17) from them could not help MI chase 165.

Earlier in the match, Mumbai Indians won the toss and chose to bowl first. Delhi Daredevils got off to an aggressive start, as they scored two boundaries from the first two deliveries of the innings, but lost steam when the man in form Quinton De Kock was dismissed cheaply trying to hoick one across the line. They lost Shreyas Iyer and Karun Nair in quick succession soon after the power-play. It seemed as if DD would crumble again under pressure which they did against KKR in their first match. It was their Wicket-Keeper batsman, Sanju Samson, who re-instated the faith with an innings of 60(48). Duminy, who walked in to bat in the ninth over, began with nine singles before hitting a a six over long-on off Kieron Pollard. In the final stretch of the innings the left-hander accelerated, scoring 30 from 15 balls while picking up three boundaries and a six. He remained unbeaten on 49, made from 31 balls, as the hosts finished at 164-4.

Zaheer Khan was happy with his team’s efforts and did not forget to praise JP Duminy and Sanju Samson. He said, “Samson and JP played really well – they took their time. They took the responsibility because we played an extra bowler today. It’s tough when you have a big break but we are happy with the processes and making sure that practice sessions are not lengthy. There’s a lot of excitement; always is when you have a young team.”
