Shikhar Dhawan came to the party along with Rishabh Pant to help India win by 6 wickets and complete a 3-0 whitewash at Chepauk on Sunday.

Fielding first, India made two changes to the side that won in Lucknow. With Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav rested, Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar got a chance in the final T20I.

Windies retained their same XI and opted to bat first. After a couple of quiet overs, both Hope and Hetmyer got going, targeting Washington Sundar, Khaleel Ahmed, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and even Krunal Pandya.

The visitors scored briskly in the powerplay, accumulating 51 runs before Yuzvendra Chahal, on the very first ball of his series, removed Sha Hope. Darren Bravo brought a sense of calm at number three which unsettled Hetmyer who himself was feeling the dot ball pressure and finally succumbed to Chahal as the Windies lost both their openers with 62 runs on the board.

Denesh Ramdin then tried to up the ante but threw it away when he was cleaned up by Washington Sundar for a run-a-ball 15, trying to play a cut short.

The management promoted Nicholas Pooran ahead of Kieron Pollard to partner Darren Bravo who was finding it difficult to accelerate.

Pooran got into his groove soon and understood the slowness of the wicket quickly. He waited for the ball to come to him and then belted it to corners. Pooran took everyone by surprise when he changed his grip and smashed Chahal for a reverse hit that sailed over the deep point fence.

He kept taking the risk to play the cheeky shots that came off as India leaked runs at the death in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah.

Darren Bravo was doing fine to rotate the strike and hit that odd boundary as the visitors garnered 63 runs off the final five to finish with a strong 181/3 on the board. Nicholas Pooran remained unbeaten on 53* off just 25-balls.

Chasing 182, Rohit Sharma swept Pierre for a boundary off his very first ball but couldn’t contribute much. He was dismissed for 4 by Keemo Paul before Rahul and Dhawan joined forces to get on with the chase.

Dhawan made full use of the power play, taking advantage of a slow Carlos Brathwaite and hit him over the in-field on numerous occasions. KL Rahul, on the other end, looked comfortable against spin but Oshane Thomas’ extra pace saw him nicking one to Denesh Ramdin behind the stumps.

Rishabh Pant came in at number four, took his time to settle in but exploded as soon as he got comfortable. He was playing his full range of shots and they were coming off as well. The way he maneuvered the experienced Kieron Pollard displayed what he was made of.

Pollard gave him no pace to play with but Pant was hitting the ball over the fence with one hand. Shikhar Dhawan took a backseat all this while as Pant raced to his maiden T20I fifty off 30 balls.

The dashing opener too joined the party as India inched closer towards the target. But there was a twist in the tale. Rishabh Pant threw his wicket away with India needing 7 off 11 balls.

India lost Dhawan too and the Windies were able to almost pull off a draw but a fumble by Allen off his bowling allowed Manish Pandey to scramble through. India, in the end, completed a 6 wicket victory in Chennai.
