We fell 15 runs short, says Kishan

By Mumbai Indians

Ishan Kishan said Mumbai Indians fell 15 runs short after the team lost to Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday night.

Kishan, who scored 58 off 42 balls and added 129 runs for the second wicket in the company of Suryakumar Yadav, said the wicket was slow to bat on. The young wicketkeeper-batsman, however, said that MI will bounce back soon.

“I think we’ve been in this situation before and I think Mumbai Indians is known to bounce back. So, we won’t lose hope. We’re going to bounce back and we’ll play our best cricket in the matches to come,” Kishan said.

He credited the RR bowlers, especially Vivo IPL debutant Jofra Archer for keeping things tighter in the death overs. MI scored 32/5 in the last five overs. “I won’t say it’s bad batting. Obviously, the partnership (with Yadav) was important. But I’d say we were 15 runs short. That happens in any T20 match. They bowled well. The wicket was not easy to bat on. So I’ll say we were 15 runs short but I think this was a good total,” Kishan said.

Kishan, who suffered a freak injury in the match against RCB last week, thanked the team’s physiotherapist for helping him recover. “All credit goes to my physio. He worked a lot on me, taking care of me all the time, checking if I’ve taken my tablets and everything. The credit goes to him and my eye is much better right now,” Kishan said.

Kishan also spoke highly of Archer. “I think he (Archer) bowled well, but we could have scored more runs when he was bowling. He gave us very few loose balls. But that’s the beauty of cricket. Sometimes you’re able to score big runs and sometimes you’re not able to. So, we’ll take the positives from this game and we’ll think about what we need to do,” he said.

Speaking of K Gowtham, whose 11-ball 33 sealed the deal for RR, Kishan said, “Obviously he batted really well. He waited for the ball. Like I said, the wicket was not easy for a new batsman who come in and play the big shots. I think he batted really well.”

Kishan has scored 155 runs in five outings this season. He will only get better.
