India didn’t have it as easy as Rajkot but Virat Kohli’s men were comfortable winners in Hyderabad beating the visitors by 10 wickets in another three-day finish.

India made only one change to their winning combination. Shardul Thakur got his first Test cap in place of Mohammed Shami. Windies won the toss and opted to bat first but India lost their debutant Thakur to an injury after bowling just 10 balls.

Windies survived for the first 45 minutes but lost Kieran Powell to Ashwin. Kuldeep Yadav’s wrist spin caused further damage when he dismissed Kraigg Brathwaite for just 12.

Their number three Shai Hope got a start and looked solid for his 36 before Umesh Yadav trapped him in front of the stumps. Kuldeep went on to remove Shimron Hetmyer and Sunil Ambris keeping the Windies down to 113/5.

Roston Chase and Shane Dowrich formed a partnership from there on and added 69 runs from the sixth wicket but Umesh Yadav got him lbw to keep the Indian team interested. The Windies having been outplayed for the first couple of sessions fought back in the last through skipper Jason Holder and Chase.

The duo batted chancelessly almost till stumps, stitching a 104-run stand. Holder completed his fifty before losing concentration and edging a ball down the leg side. Roston Chase had mastered the Indian attack from the other and batted unbeaten on 98 overnight.

Chase completed his first away ton on the second morning but Umesh Yadav picked the remaining four Windies wickets to shoot them for 311.

Prithvi Shaw dominated the opening partnership with KL Rahul with the latter only managing 4 runs in their 61-run stand. Windies took a breather at lunch and returned to remove Shaw and Pujara to keep the game in the balance.

India lost their tempo but had skipper Virat Kohli battling it out with Ajinkya Rahane. Rahane toiled hard in the middle along with Kohli to forge a 60-run stand before the Indian skipper was trapped plumb by his opposite number Jason Holder.

Rahane and Pant batted in different gears to help India fightback. India won the third session without losing any wicket and were just three behind the Windies total at stumps.

Rahane was dismissed the next morning on 80 and Pant returned for 92 as the visitors came back hard, keeping India’s lead under control.

With a 56-run deficit, Windies didn’t have the brightest of starts with both their openers failing to score.

When Hetmyer and Hope started to look comfortable, Kuldeep and Jadeja removed them in quick succession to leave the Windies reeling at 45/4. Windies hoped for Chase to come good again but their first innings hero was castled by Umesh, who on the very next ball, sent Shane Dowrich packing as well.

Sunil Ambris kept the fight going from the other end but once he was dismissed for 38, Windies crumbled for 127.

India needed 72 to claim the series and they did it in style. Shaw took a few blows, gave them chances but Rahul was solid from the other end. India took the extended half an hour and cruised to victory with 10 wickets in hand.
