India create history in the West Indies

By Mumbai Indians

India scripted history by clinching their 4th Test series win against West Indies away from home. This was the first occasion they won 2 Tests in a series against the West Indies away from home. Ravichandran Ashwin, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane and Wriddhiman Saha all made important contributions in India’s victory.

Ashwin scored 235 runs in the 4 Test matches and took 197 wickets. This was his 6th Man of the Series award which is the most by an Indian in Tests and what is commendable is the fact that he has just played 36 Tests. He scored 2 centuries in the series and also took two 5 wicket hauls, both of which were the most by an Indian in the series.

Rahane has been an unsung hero for India and has been consistent in his performances in his short international career. He scored a century in the 2nd Test and in the 3rd Test his quick fire unbeaten 78 paved the way for India to declare at the right time and give them enough time to bowl out the West Indies.

In the first Test, Kohli strode to the crease with India in a sticky situation and his majestic 200 put India on course for victory. He also led India aggressively on the field and his positive approach and innovative captaincy set the tone for India for the rest of the series. It always helps a team when the skipper leads by example.

Following the retirement of MS Dhoni, Saha is undoubtedly the best glove man in India. There was a question mark about his ability with the bat but he silenced his detractors with a century in the 3rd Test and he also made a couple of useful 40s in the first two Tests. This rubbed off on his wicket keeping and he was brilliant behind the stumps.

Overall, the Indians put in a spirited performance and this augurs well for the long season at home where they play 13 Tests. It will certainly do their confidence a world of good as they strive to reclaim the number 1 ranking.
