KXIP vs SRH – Match Report

By Mumbai Indians

Kings XI Punjab had defeated the MI in their previous match and today they were up against the table toppers, Sunrisers Hyderabad. KXIP have been the party spoilers this season as they were nurturing a late surge in form, looking to end their IPL on a high note. KXIP won the toss and chose to bat first.

KXIP started well with Hashim Amla and Murali Vijay attacking from both ends. Mustafizur Rahaman who went wicketless in the previous two games drew the first blood when the ball flew off Vijay’s ba leading edge towards David Warner at mid-off. Amla was joined by Wriddhiman Saha, and they posted a 50 run partnership until he was claimed by Moises Henriques. Amla who had settled at the other end took the attack to the opposition. He played an incredible innings to show everyone that if a batsman has technique then he can succeed in any format. He missed out on a deserving century when he got out for 96(56) which was enough to get KXIP to a total of 180.

SRH had a decent start as the two openers started off on a cautious note. The openers Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner made sure they didn’t lose any wickets in the powerplay and provide a good platform for the chase. It was a spectacular effort on the field which got KXIP their first wicket in the form of Dhawan. David Warner looked certain to finish the game for SRH as he had already got his half century and was looking good for more. Warner got out in the most unlikely fashion as he was hit wicket, to give KXIP a window of opportunity. Deepak Hooda and Yuvraj Singh kept their calm to keep the required run-rate under check. KXIP took the match till the last over, but Yuvraj made sure they got home with two balls to spare.
