Neither side has won a game yet this season. While Mumbai Indians suffered two heartbreaking losses, Delhi Daredevils were outplayed by Kings XI Punjab in their opening fixture in Chandigarh before losing to Rajasthan Royals in a rain-hit encounter in Jaipur. Both teams will be yearning to get on the board. There is very little to choose between the teams. Both units are high on firepower, youth and experience. However, neither team has gotten off the blocks. All that will change on Saturday. One team will get off the mark. Saturday is also #ESAMatchday. The Wankhede will be a sea of blue. As many as 21,000 children will be present at the venue as part of the Reliance Foundation’s landmark initiative, Education And Sports For All.
In The Spotlight
Rohit Sharma hasn’t had a fruitful opening week. It’s time for our skipper to shake the rust off and get the team off to a flying start. On the captaincy front, Sharma has got most his tactics right. That said, the team has fallen short of expectations in both games. Sharma has always done well against Delhi. Will it be his day?
Mayank Markande is doing everything right. With seven wickets in two games, he is also the Purple Cap holder. Can he get it right for the third match in succession? And, more importantly, can he inspire MI to victory?
Shreyas Iyer would be itching to do well at the Wankhede, his home ground. Iyer has played many an important knock at this venue. He will walk into MI’s fortress as an ‘outsider’ on Saturday. Let’s see how he handles that pressure. Don’t forget he made only 11 in Delhi’s opening game.
Glenn Maxwell hit two fours and a six before nicking one to the wicketkeeper in the last game against Rajasthan Royals. He had missed Delhi’s opener. Can the ‘Big Show’ do what he does best?
Rishabh Pant vs Mustafizur Rahman
Pant loves to take the attack to the opposition. In Rahman, he will come across a worthy opponent who doesn’t like to be bullied. Pant looks to intimidate every bowler he faces. And Rahman will try and fox him with his accuracy and variations. This contest could play out both at the start and end of the innings.
Evin Lewis vs Trent Boult
When pace meets power, you really don’t know to expect. Lewis found his touch against Sunrisers Hyderabad but was dismissed against the run of play. He will have to be on top of his game against Boult. There won’t be any freebies on offer. But Lewis knows he’s capable of upsetting Boult’s rhythm. This is going to be a cracker of a clash.
Head to Head
MI lead 11-9
