MI get the ball rolling against Rising Pune Supergiants

By Mumbai Indians

The Vivo IPL 2017 is all set to kick-start on 5th April, as last season’s finalists face-off on opening day. The tournament will be played across 10 venues in 47 days, which promises plenty of action-packed encounters.

The first game will see defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad take on Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Rajiv Gandhi Intl. Stadium in Hyderabad. The hosts would look to complete a hat-trick of wins against Virat Kohli’s men. Both sides are filled with exciting T20 stars in their ranks and this bout should be the perfect setting to inaugurate IPL 2017.

Mumbai Indians play their first game against Rising Pune Supergiants on 6th April in Pune in the Maharashtra Derby! Mumbai bagged a victory last year when they played Pune at this very venue. It promises to be a thrilling contest as MI would look to start their season on a high.

Mumbai’s second league game will be played at our fortress, Wankhede Stadium, when we take on Kolkata Knight Riders on 9th April. Mumbai boast a strong record against the Knights with a win percentage of over 70 across all seasons – the highest for MI against any current team playing in the IPL. The hosts will look to keep that record intact and thrill the vociferous Wankhede crowd.

Defending champions, Sunrisers Hyderabad then pay a visit to the Wankhede on 12th April. Mumbai failed to bag a victory against the eventual winners last season, and they’ll be out to exact revenge this time around.

Next, Mumbai will travel to Bengaluru for a high-voltage clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore on 14th April. Last season’s runner-up failed to manage a single win against MI in 2016, while Mumbai will be gunning for a hat-trick of wins against RCB.

We face Gujarat Lions next, at the Wankhede on 16th April. MI will be on the hunt to tame the Lions and in doing so, rack up our first victory against the Rajkot-based outfit.

On 20th April, Mumbai Indians will take on Kings XI Punjab in Indore. KXIP have chosen this venue as one of their home grounds. The Holkar Cricket Stadium will host two games and this will be their final one of the season. MI’s IPL record against KXIP stands 9-9 in 18 games.

Mumbai will then travel to the capital to meet Delhi Daredevils on 22nd April. In our last encounter against DD, we thumped them by a big margin of 80 runs. We’ll have to be at our best as this game will be played on their home ground – the Feroz Shah Kotla.

On 24th April, we welcome our neighbours Rising Pune Supergiants, as we celebrate Sachin Tendulkar’s birthday at our fortress. Mumbai haven’t lost a single game played on 24th April, so the odds are well in our favour.

Mumbai Indians enter the Lion’s den on 29th April as we play Gujarat Lions at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot, in what will be the last league game of the season over there.

On 1st May, Royal Challengers Bangalore will then face the music at the Wankhede, in what promises to be a riveting contest. An entertaining encounter is on the cards, as Mumbai rolls out the red carpet for the visit of the Bengaluru-based side.

In our second consecutive home game, it will be Delhi Daredevils’ chance to visit the Wankhede Stadium on 6th May. Mumbai’s crowd will get another chance to root for our players at our home ground.

On 8th May, we could witness an electrifying battle, as IPL 2015 Champions will take on IPL 2016 Champions, when we make the trip to Hyderabad to face Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Mumbai will play their last home league game of the season on 11th May, when we battle it out against Kings XI Punjab. We then conclude our season on 13th May against two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders at the historic Eden Gardens, where our captain, Rohit Sharma has fond memories.

The play-offs begin from 16th May with Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator will be played on 17th May. Qualifier 2 will be played on 19th May and the IPL 2017 final will be played at Rajiv Gandhi Intl. Stadium in Hyderabad on 21st May to conclude the tournament!
