MI vs SRH – Match Report

By Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians were ready to face the Sunrisers Hyderabad at their new home when they were greeted by cheers of 3,000 odd kids from the stands. It was a special match for our young fans who were there to cheer for the home side. Rohit Sharma missed a trick at the toss when he called to bowl first.

Sunrisers Hyderabad got off to a blazing start with the southpaw pair of David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan caressing the gaps to perfection. The duo scored a boundary every over to not let the run-rate go down. Rohit Sharma turned towards his most experienced bowler, Harbhajan Singh, to put a break on this partnership. It was an ensuing battle between David Warner and Bhajji when the Aussie showed his wide array of shots. Harbhajan had the last laugh when Warner was caught at long-on trying to go for a heave, over long-off. Dhawan and Warner stitched a partnership of 85 runs. Bhajji picked up his second wicket when skipper plucked a dipping ball, inches above from the ground, while fielding at mid-wicket to get the wicket of Kane Williamson. Yuvraj Singh came in and supported Dhawan well as they launched an assault which helped SRH score 75 runs in the last 6 overs. Dhawan anchored the SRH innings with 82 from 57 balls and set a target of 178 runs for MI.

Mumbai Indians had a dismal start, losing Pathiv Patel and Rohit Sharma off consecutive deliveries. Krunal Pandya, who came in at no. 4, showed the impetus to continue but perished after few glory hits. None of the other batsmen showed the composure to carry the team along. Ashish Nehra put on a spectacular display of fast balling as he sent back the MI top order. He was amply supported from the other end, by Mustafizur Rahman, Moises Henriques, Bhvneshwar Kumar and Barinder Sran. SRH showed how a good bowling performance, can win you matches even in the T-20 format which is predominantly known as the batsman’s game. Nehra and Rahman were the pick of the bowlers for SRH as they ended the night with figures of 3-15 and 3-16 respectively. Rohit and co. will look to get over this loss quickly and focus on the upcoming game against Royal challengers Bangalore in 2 days time.
