“SKY’s knock phenomenal; he played the situation perfectly”: Kieron Pollard

By Mumbai Indians

In a game where we played for the Paltan, our pride and our badge, Mumbai Indians didn’t disappoint the vast sea of Blue and Gold at the Wankhede Stadium against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday (May 6).

Having overseen how the Mumbai Indians players put their heart and soul into chasing the 174-run target, our Batting Coach, Kieron Pollard began the post-match conference by underlining how Suryakumar Yadav (SKY) kept his nerve and discipline to play a dazzling innings.

“His knock was phenomenal,” was Pollard’s initial verdict on SKY’s century.

“He played the situation just about perfectly when he went in. It was a tricky situation where the ball was nipping around and moving around a bit. He got beaten a few times but held his nerve, and that's the sort of discipline we ask for.

“Then he got into his work about manoeuvring the field, placing the gaps, and counter-attacking. But it's no surprise for us; that's how he practices and plays. And when he scores, and he scores big, you often come out on the winning side,” the LLord added.

Besides Aapla Dada Surya’s electric knock, the Paltan also saw Tilak Varma continue his run of consistent batting performances. Pollard commended TV's confidence when MI needed an injection of hope and desire to chase 174.

“He's a talented youngster. Since he entered our Mumbai Indians camp, he has done well for us over the last three seasons,” he said on the impact and continuous rise to being a talisman for the Blue and Gold.

“We are delighted with the confidence he exudes every time he walks to the crease. We continue to encourage the talented youngsters to go out and play their game.”

This praise extended due to his composure in today’s much-need victory at home.

“You see, we were under pressure. Tilak came down to bat against Pat Cummins in the fifth over, and it's in two covers. We applaud his intent and bravery in the dressing room and encourage the guys to push the limits. We continue to push the boundaries. Tilak, he's a talent. Hopefully, he can continue to be successful and consistent in whatever cricket he plays,” Pollard said.

This game of cricket in the MIvSRH fixture was equivalent to the entertaining and thrilling matches that the Paltan and cricket fans love. Although it has come towards the end of the season, Polly expressed that the team was constantly evolving and moving forward.

“Sometimes, you can't put your finger on what has transpired. At the end of the season, we can sit back and look at that.

“So, for us, it's about continuing to look forward. We have the opportunity to play three games. We played one, and now two more to go. And then, at the end of it, we look back and see where or what would have gone wrong for us that caused the delay in the success that everyone has been looking for, including ourselves.”

“So, for now, it's not about dwelling. It's about finishing off, and let's see what happens after that.”

This victory is a testament to the unwavering support of our beloved Paltan. Your loyalty, whether in good times or bad, is our driving force. We are deeply grateful for your support. As we navigate the ups and downs of the season, our focus remains on ending the IPL 2024 campaign on a high note.

We eagerly anticipate your presence in large numbers for our upcoming clash with the Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Saturday (May 11). We are leaving no stone unturned in our preparations and are confident in our ability to deliver another thrilling performance.
