SRH vs MI – Match Report

By Mumbai Indians

David Warner won a very important toss and decided to bowl first against Mumbai Indians. The MI Playing XI was much different from the one that was fielded against the Gujarat Lions. Kieron Pollard was the biggest name who was missing out of the starting XI, he made way for the explosive Kiwi opener, Martin Guptill. Parthiv Patel and Martin Guptill opened the innings for MI with a hope to not lose early wickets. This was the third opening pair tried in as many as four games, which did not succeed again. Guptill was dismissed at a personal score of 2 from 4 balls, giving the SRH fans a spur of joy. SRH’s bowling attack led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mustafizur Rahman kept picking wickets at regular intervals. It seemed MI would bundle out even before reaching a three figure mark. However, Ambati Rayudu and Krunal Pandya did not buckle under pressure. Rayudu who was playing his 100th IPL match played a responsible innings in the company of Krunal , who helped Rayudu resurrect the MI innings. He scored 54 off 49 balls while Pandya scored a brisk 49 off 28. They managed to push Mumbai Indian’s score to 142-6.

SRH had a slow start as they lost Shikhar Dhawan in the very first over, who continued his poor run with the bat. David Warner anchored the innings as he tried to put on a partnership but couldn’t find a steady partner at the other end. Moises Henriques, Eoin Morgan and Deepak Hooda did spend time on the wicket, helping David Warner reach his 24th IPL half-century. MI managed to pick wickets at regular intervals but couldn’t capitalize on the same. Warner look determined to pull off their first win in IPL 2016. He took his team beyond the finish line with 15 balls to spare. Warner played a spectacular innings scoring 90*off 59 balls to take SRH to their first win. After three loses in four games, things do not look steady for the MI camp. The team strength does boast of big names but the fans are waiting for them to fire and come good. MI will be playing their next game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on 20th April at the Wankhede Stadium.
