We are doing well as a bowling unit: Bumrah

By Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians got their third win of the IPL when they beat Kings XI Punjab with a dominating performance. Jasprit Bumrah finished with figures of 3/26 (4). First he dismissed the in-form Manan Vohra and then he got the danger man Glenn Maxwell who was looking to take the game away. MI has been a great bowling unit, even without their spearhead Lasith Malinga. Jasprit says, that “Malinga is a world class bowler. We obviously miss him but as a bowling department we’re doing well. Mitchell McClenaghan and Tim Southee are also doing well.”

Bumrah has evolved a lot over the last year. He has played for the Indian team in Australia and then in the ICC World Twenty20. “It was a nice experience, I learnt a lot in Australia, the Asia cup and the Sri Lanka series. I learnt a lot from the Indian team, because I played a lot of series and the players are there with me. So that experience really helped me in the T20 format, and I am trying to carry that experience in the IPL.”

Bumrah has a very potent yorker in his armory and he executes it to perfection. It is absolutely vital in the death overs when batsmen are looking to score runs off him. About his yorkers Bumrah said, “You cannot master anything but try to practice a lot and execute them because you cannot be successful with only one ball. I tried to mix my pace and I tried to use the yorkers. I used to play with tennis ball cricket quite a lot before playing serious cricket, so over there I used to bowl yorkers. It’s a very difficult delivery to bowl, but practicing it continuously helps.”

Shane Bond’s influence on MI’s bowling unit was further exemplified by the young MI pacer, “I’ve learnt a lot from him [Shane Bond], we make plans during practice, he is a very experienced bowler, and he helps everyone including the spinners. He helps me in pressure situations and tells me what to do and what not to do.”
