By Mumbai Indians

The second and final warm-up match between West Indies Cricket Board President’s XI and India at Warner Park, St Kitts, ended in a draw as WIBP’s middle order stood tall on the last day of the match against some excellent spin bowling by Team India.

With the coin favoring the Board President’ XI, they went on to bat first and could manage to post a moderate total of just 180 in the first innings. Cornwall was the top scorer for WIBP XI as he scored a crucial 41 off 56 balls. Kohli kept shuffling the bowlers regularly and used six bowlers in the first innings. The spin pair of Ashwin and Jadeja shared 6 wickets amongst themselves, with 3 wickets each. Amit Mishra, the pick of the bowlers in the first warm-up match also added 2 wickets to his tally. Shardul Thakur and Stuart Binny helped themselves to a wicket each.

As India came into bat in the first innings, they lost early wickets of Dhawan (9) & Vijay (23) and ended the first day’s play at 93/3. Resuming from 93/3, Kohli and Rahul steadied India’s ship as the added 88 runs in the first session of the day two. All-Rounder Ravindra Jadeja also contributed with his bat as his 56-run knock helped India take 184-run first innings lead. Ashwin took the wicket of Leon Johnson on the last ball of the day. The second day ended with WIBP at 26/1.

The third day resumed and Jadeja delivered an early blow by sending back John Campbell for 31. Soon after that, Ashwin took Shai Hope’s wicket thanks to a brilliant catch by Virat Kohli at short fine-leg. Hereafter WIBP XI’s middle-order fought back and frustrated the Indian bowlers on the final day. Blackwood, scored a solid 51 while Vishaul Singh and Montcin Hodge scored 39 each. Finally, at the end of the 86th over the captains decided to shake hands and call it a draw. Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers getting three wickets.

A perfect scenario as a well-balanced practice match ended in a draw. It will be interesting to see how the story unfolds as India begin their four-Test series against West Indies from July 21.
