10 reasons why Wankhede will rock this season

By Mumbai Indians

Back to the Fortress

We’re celebrating 10 years of Mumbai Indians and what a phenomenal decade it has been! Our very own Wankhede Stadium has been an integral part of this wonderful journey and the players can’t wait to show their prowess in front of our Paltan!

Here’s why we think it will be ten times the fun at the Wankhede this season.

The only home sweet home

Yes, you read right. We are not going anywhere this year. The Wankhede Stadium will host all of MI’s home matches in Vivo Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. Seven mouth-watering encounters to look forward to at our special abode. It’s great to be back indeed.

Full house at the fortress

Capacity crowd making a lot of noise, cheering our boys, waving the MI flags with pride. Mumbaikars are known for their vociferous support and we are sure there’d be an electrifying atmosphere at the Wankhede again this year. 32,000 passionate fans await.

Milestone for Wankhede

24th April is a special date for an MI fan. Sachin’s birthday and MI’s home match. What more can you ask for? Well, this year it will be even more special because we’ll be playing our 50th game at our iconic home ground on that day. An occasion befitting the milestone. Save the date and be there!

Fantastic home record

With a win percentage of 65.91, Mumbai Indians boasts of a formidable home record. The Wankhede has always been good to us and the victories are always sweeter at our home turf in front of the irreplaceable Paltan. The boys will look to add to the triumphs.

Ro is a hit at home

Rohit Sharma is fit as a fiddle and right in the thick of things. Over the years, our skipper has scored loads of runs at home and is the best batsman in the IPL at Wankhede with 1235 runs to his credit. We’re sure he’ll be adding many more to his tally this year.

Runs galore

The Wankhede Stadium has always traditionally been a high-scoring ground, owing to the smaller ground dimensions and lightening quick outfield. We’ve seen some high scoring thrillers with quality cricket being played and expect some more fireworks as runs will be scored aplenty this year as well.

Wankhede welcomes the newbies

The Paltan will witness as many as 7 highly talented players flaunting their MI jerseys this year. It will be delightful to be at the venue and watch Mitchell Johnson’s feisty Yorkers and Asela Gunaratne’s thunderous sixes.

Sachin, Sachin, Sachin

Like every year, our icon, Sachin Tendulkar, will be in the house supporting the Mumbai Indians and as always, he will be the one who gets the loudest of cheers. It’s always great to have the Master at the Wankhede and this year, it will be no different. Three cheers for the Master Blaster!

Spectacular sixes

When a team line-up includes bludgeoners like Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya, you can expect the ball to make frequent trips to the stands. Get ready to watch in awe as these power hitters go full throttle and give a hard time to the bowlers. Let’s start the six counter already!

Malinga magic

Lasith ‘Slinga’ Malinga is one of the deadliest weapons in MI’s armoury and has a splendid record at Wankhede with 53 wickets to his name. The Sri Lankan pacer knows the Wankhede pitch and will amaze the crowd with his yorkers, bouncers, and slower balls and will once again play a key role in Mumbai Indians’ campaign.

We’ve started our quest for the 3rd IPL trophy and how well we fare at the Wankhede Stadium will determine which way we’re heading. So, come out there and shout out loud, Paltan. Wankhede will be rocking this season!
