India eye whitewash

By Mumbai Indians

After a Diwali break, the Indian team is ready to take on the Windies in the third and final T20I at Chennai on November 11. While India will play to complete a clean sweep, Carlos Brathwaite and men will want to make the most of this opportunity and trouble the hosts to leave India on a happy note..

India will be sans MS Dhoni in Chennai which will disappoint the crowd but won’t stop them from supporting the country on Sunday.

From the Indian dressing room:

While Rohit Sharma has shown that he is one of the very best in the shortest format, it will be a challenge for Shikhar Dhawan to get among the runs. After a successful Asia Cup, Dhawan has looked wanting for runs. He hasn’t scored a single half-century in all 7 limited overs games so far and will be on the lookout to score big.

KL Rahul, too, hasn’t had the real opportunity to score big runs but looked in good form in Lucknow. While India’s top three doesn’t seem to undergo a change, the visitors could look at trying Shreyas Iyer at number four instead of Rishabh Pant.

Dinesh Karthik will continue to the don the gloves with Krunal Pandya to follow. It will be a big opportunity for the Sr. Pandya to cement his place with a crucial performance ahead of the big Australian tour.

With India resting Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav and Umesh Yadav, this might well be a chance for someone like a Washington Sundar to fit in again.

Siddharth Kaul is expected to make it to the XI along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar to provide India solidarity with the ball.

From the Windies dressing room:

Windies will be hoping for Kieron Pollard to again become the match-winner that he is. The big Trinidadian has failed to deliver in this series but is one knock shy of announcing his return to competitive cricket.

The visitors have been hurt in many aspects. The absence of their regular openers has forced the likes of Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer to get exposed to the new ball which has not helped their cause.

Carlos Brathwaite’s men could look at bringing back Rovman Powell instead of Denesh Ramdin in the XI. Powell was impressive at the top in the lone ODI that he opened. In this case, Nicholas Pooran could see himself behind the stumps which could prove as a blessing in disguise.

As far as their bowling is concerned, everyone apart from Oshane Thomas took a beating in Lucknow. There’s not much to change and the visitors will be hoping for their bowlers to come good at Chepauk.

Fabian Allen and Khary Pierre will have a huge task to play if the wicket behaves slowly traditionally. Brathwaite will have a lot to prove as a captain too. He will aim to finish off the series on a high with India’s big guns rested.

Overall, an Indian team without Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, MS Dhoni and Kuldeep Yadav still does not look weak.
