Zimbabwe v India - 2nd ODI Match Report

By Mumbai Indians

After a clinical performance by Team India in the first match of the ODI series against Zimbabwe, the teams met at The Harare sports Club for the second ODI. India went in with an unchanged side on a pitch conducive to bowling. Due to a couple of cracks that could cause uneven bounce M.S Dhoni opted to bowl first after winning the toss.

The quickies Barinder Sran and Dhawal Kulkarni were handed the responsibility with the new ball. The duo executed their plans perfectly and with some assistance from the pitch they managed to knock down the top order during powerplay. Bumrah was introduced as first change who continued from where he left in the first ODI, hitting some good spots and ended up with 1 wicket to his name. Yuzvendra Chahal however was the pick of the bowlers chipping away 3 wickets in 6 overs at an economy of 4.17. Another disciplined bowling performance by the Indian team ensured that Zimbabwe were bundled out for a low total of 126 in 34.3 overs.

Indian openers Karun Nair and K.L. Rahul were out in the centre chasing a total of 127 runs. The openers started off well as they got their timing spot-on from the first ball. K.L Rahul and Karun Nair stitched a good opening partnership before Rahul got out playing a handy innings of 33 (50). Ambati Rayudu joined Karun Nair to take the innings ahead. The latter was however lucky as he was caught off a no ball but that did not stop him from scoring 39 (68) before he finally gave his wicket away to Raza. Ambati Rayudu continued his good form as he was the highest run scorer of the innings scoring a quick fire 41* (44). The winning shot was hit by Manish Pandey as India finished the match in 26.5 overs.

An all-round team effort by India not only helped them win the second ODI but also seal the series against Zimbabwe. Team India would now be looking for a clean sweep as the meet for the final match of the series on 15th June 2016.
