The Ameila Kerr show of 179 that scripted the highest chase in Women’s ODIs
There is a certain aura about players who thrive when the stakes are high. Aapli, Mumbaichi Rani Amelia Kerr produced a courageous unbeaten knock off 179 in just 139 deliveries, aced with 23 fours and 1 six 👏. She eventually won the POTM award as New Zealand Women clinched a 2 wicket win against South Africa Women during the second ODI in Wellington.
The Kiwis pulled off the highest successful run chase in women’s ODIs 350/8 in 49.4 overs and levelled the series against South Africa. What made the knock even more memorable was the weight of responsibility she carried as the New Zealand Women’s team skipper. What stood out most was her game awareness, as she stayed rooted in her process. Her innings was built brick by brick after they lost Suzie Bates early in the fifth over.
Moving forward in the mighty run chase, Amelia steadied the ship with a 52-run stand with Georgia Plimmer and later stitched a 120-run partnership in just 81 balls along with Isabella Gaze. En route she got to her fifth ODI 💯 in just 90 balls 💪. Kerr’s composure became her biggest asset. She then switched gears and accelerated her innings smartly with skill work, flair, and great temperament piercing the boundaries with ease.
South Africa was indeed flustered as there was no way of scalping her wicket. They tried everything… variations, different field changes but nothing bothered her. She was always one step ahead of the opposition, visualizing the finish line. She understood the importance of this win and owned it clearly. She guided her side home with ice in her veins.
Patience and precision always mattered to our Mumbai-Kerr. When the game demanded a superstar, she put her hand up and created a masterpiece. 💙
