DD vs RPS – Match Report

Delhi Daredevils have been in a great form and have performed well throughout this season, to reach the third spot on the points table. Rising Pune Supergiants would be looking to change their current trend in the IPL with a win which will boost the morale of the squad. Dhoni won the toss and chose to bowl first, looking to restrict Delhi to a competitive score.

Delhi Daredevils made a plethora of changes to their side, right from the captain who was sidelined due to a niggle. The opening pair tampered with once again, even after providing a superb start in the previous match. They did not have the greatest of starts when Rishabh Pant was dismissed by Dinda in the third over. It was Scott Boland who broke the partnership which was flourishing between Sanju Samson and Karun Nair. DD kept losing wickets at regular intervals and they couldn’t get that one big partnership from where they could take off. The stand-in skipper played a re-assuring innings of 34 while Sam Billings and Carlos Brathwaite unfurled a fury of hits into the stand which propelled DD to 162/7.

RPS went on with their usual tempo of batting as they started steady and accelerated towards the end. They started with Ajinkya Rahane and the new recruit Usman Khawaja who is in tremendous form. Rahane took the quick singles and two’s and punished the bad deliveries with boundaries. Rahane 63(48) once again anchored the innings which let the other players play their game. The spinners kept the daredevils in the game by keeping a check on the scoring rate. The two leg spinners made the life difficult by mixing it up well in the middle overs and leading the fight back. MS Dhoni tried to take RPS to victory but lost his wicket to a spectacular in the field by Sam Billings, to put the match in a precarious situation. Thisara Perera kept calm and hit those big sixes to take RPS home.
