ENGvIND 5th T20I report: Tilak fifty in vain, as Buttler-Brook seal series victory for England

A disappointing end to a tough series. Sparks of brightness from Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma’s bat was not enough for the visitors on the given day. India did put up a fight…showed intent during the chase, but England played exceptional cricket through the whole series.

Brook-Buttler on fire, steer England to massive total

England batters came all out to dominate over India right from the first delivery. Everything seemed to have gone the Englishmen’s way. They played an aggressive brand of cricket which put India under severe pressure. Within no time, the hosts were 61/1 in the first six overs of powerplay and from there onwards it was no looking back. This time around the ‘B’ factor came into play as Harry Brook and opener Jos Buttler seemed to have worked their magic in the middle. Together they stitched a humongous partnership of 233 runs for the second wicket. Buttler notched up 131 in just 64 balls, with 12 fours and eight sixes. Harry Brook remained unbeaten on 95(45), a brilliant exhibition of stroke play with four boundaries and eight maximums.

England ended their innings at 257/3 in 20 overs, Shivam Dube grabbed back-to-back wickets of Buttler and Jacob Bethell.

Positive intent by India, Ishan scores handy half ton

India came out with great positivity to chase down the total. Sanju Samson started off with a bang, smacking three fours and two sixes en-route his 14-balls quick fire 27. India was 65/2 in their first six overs of power play, always trying their best to maintain the run rate.

A gritty half century from Ishan Kishan at the other end helped keep the scoreboard ticking with runs. He anchored the innings, counter attacking the English bowlers with a well composed 56(35), aced with seven boundaries and two sixes. He was also involved in a 55-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer.

All gun’s blazing…  TV looks to turn the tide with his half century

Our very own Tilak Varma played fearless shots in the middle, bringing back the smiles that had faded. The game may have been lost, but a lot of heads turned due to his splendid smashing in the middle. Batting at number five, he made 53 in just 25 balls along with three fours and four maximums, SR of 212. He kept the fight going in the middle…but alas was caught by Jos Buttler.

India ended with 201/8 in their 20 overs; Sam Curran was the pick of the bowlers with 3/36. England won the match by 56 runs and the series 4-0.
