India bundle out Scotland for 85, win by 8 wickets
In a clinical all-round display, India completely controlled Scotland on the field, first ending their stint with the bat for just 85 runs and then chasing it down in under seven overs.
India won their first toss of the tournament and chose to field, with the bowlers making merry and sending the Scotland batters back with ease. The Indian batters then capitalised on this platform built by the bowlers and chased down the total, hardly breaking any sweat to mount to the third position on the points table.
Below are the talking points of the game between India and Scotland.
Shami, Jadeja pick three-wicket hauls
The Indian bowlers kept the Scotland batters in check by taking crucial wickets at regular intervals to restrict Scotland to 85/10 in the allotted 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah initiated the destruction, taking out opener and captain Kyle Coetzer.
Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja joined in pretty soon and took three wickets each to leave the Scotland batters clueless. Shami ended with 3-1-15-3 and Jadeja with 4-0-15-3.
Bumrah becomes India’s top T20I wicket taker
Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets of the lot that fell tonight, and in that process became the top wicket taker for India in the T20Is. He first equalled Yuzvendra Chahal’s 63 wickets with his first scalp, and when he took the final wicket and delivered the ultimate blow to Scotland in the first innings, he became the sole leader of the T20I wickets chart for India.
Indian opening pair begins big
Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul were involved in an important 140-run partnership in the previous game. This match too, they had to repeat the performance to give India a good net run rate boost, and that is exactly what the pair did.
Rohit’s 30 (16) and Rahul’s 50 (19), the fastest half-century this tournament, added 70 runs to the first wicket partnership in just 30 balls to give India the needed momentum for a big win.
Massive net run rate boost
India got a big boost to their net run rate with a win this massive. Having reduced Scotland to 85/10, India had their task cut out, knowing how many overs they had to chase it down and get what result.
If India chased the total down in:
- 11.2 overs, they’d get their NRR over +1.000
- 8.5 overs, they’d go past New Zealand’s +1.277
- 7.1 overs, they’d go past Afghanistan’s +1.481
The team chased it down in just 6.3 overs to safely get to +1.619, with the best NRR in the group and currently sit at the third position on the points table.
Qualification scenario for India
India will have to win their next game against Namibia, but before that, they will need Afghanistan to defeat New Zealand in the game preceding that one.
The Men in Blue will face Namibia in their final Group Stage game on 8th November, 2021 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
