Qualifier 2 Preview: The Bullet Train from Mumbai arrives at Ahmedabad to make it #6
Just to reiterate, it’s our tenth time here in the play-offs. It’s safe to say we boss this stage. Yes, dip this statement in Blue and Gold. So much so that we have won seven consecutive matches in the play-offs, a record that goes back to IPL 2017. It’s time to make it eight!
Well, it is a positive injection in our run-in to Qualifier 2. And let’s not deceive ourselves to make this look simple. Nope. Far from it. The reigning champs in the Gujarat Titans await, at their den. But this isn’t something we can’t do. We are coming in high on momentum after a stellar show in Chennai, and we need to capitalize on the chink that GT might have mentally post their loss to CSK.
Here’s a stat for you: MI has the highest win percentage (68%) in games after the league stage in IPL history. Surely we can reverse our Ahmedabad jinx. No team has EVER won the IPL after coming fourth on the points table. Trust us to shatter records down! BELIEVE. One done. Two remain. Stay calm, don’t look too far ahead, and stay MI.
What: Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians
When: Friday, May 26, 2023
Where: Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad
What to expect: 1,32,000 crazy cricket fans in the cauldron making it an absolutely electric affair. A belter of a pitch, a six-hitting venue, and an overdoese of six-hitters on either side on an evening where even the sky would paint itself Blue and Gold. Oh, and also Rohit Sharma extending his excellent IPL playoffs record to 11 wins in 14 games.
What you need to do: Come practised with your Mumbaiiiii, Mumbaiiii!! chants, and make sure we, the Paltan, make the Narendra Modi Stadium feel like our home. Let’s give GT some Wankhede feels, shall we!
What they said: “Over the years we have seen many guys coming in from Mumbai Indians and playing for India. It is important to make them (youngsters) feel special and make them feel part of the team. My job is to just make them comfortable in the middle.” – The Hitman, Rohit Sharma, on Akash Madhwal’s eccentric display in the Eliminator.
