Krunal put us on the back-foot: Zaheer Khan

We beat Delhi Daredevils to secure our third largest win with a dominating performance. Krunal Pandya scored a blitzkrieg 86 to take the match away from DD. Talking about Mumbai’s performance Zaheer said, “I think the left right combination kind of helped them. When someone plays an innings like that, it just puts the pressure back on us (talking about Pandya’s innings). The important thing for them was the start they got. Rohit played a good innings as he took on the spinners in the first over itself, which kind of put us on the back foot.”

DD employed their spinners in the middle overs, but the plan back fired as MI batsmen attacked the DD spinners. Zaheer Khan replied,”When you are playing with three spinners, the idea was to use them in the middle overs and Chris Morris and I were bowling in the back end and that was the plan. I came to bowl in the fifteenth over. It is still pretty early for me to comeback, plus it was their partnership in the middle. We were hoping that the spinners would put the brakes on. Its fine, our bowling unit has been performing throughout the season and have been fantastic. So this kind of things happen and it was one off day for our bowling unit. Now it’s just about regrouping and looking ahead. We have three games left and we have to win two to qualify.”

The season has been good for Delhi, particularly their youngsters have performed well. “It’s exciting to see young talent on field. All the youngsters are doing well and playing their roles fantastically for the team. They are learning quickly and it is the differentiator for us. The way we have approached this season and the way we have played in different combinations show how the guys have been supportive of what we are looking to achieve and that’s what is really exciting for us.”
