Match drawn, series won, WTC Final date with the Aussies booked

It takes two to tango, with the seasoned pairing of Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin choreographing a hard-fought draw in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Ahmedabad. It finally ended in a 2-1 scoreline in India's favour, and thanks to Sri Lanka losing against the Kiwis in the morning today (March 13), the date is set for the FIFTH Test, in the form of the WTC final, at The Oval, on June 7.

Khawaja, Green dictate AUS batting

Usman Khawaja used the batting conditions of the Narendra Modi Stadium to his satisfaction with a 422-ball 180, a knock that lasted for roughly 10 hours. What turned out to be the third-best score by an Australian in India was supported by Cameron Green’s long-awaited maiden Test ton in his 20th Test and his 28th Test innings.

Ashwin, India’s chief bowling weapon in Tests

Ravichandran Ashwin guarantees to own ‘a’ record with every delivery he bowls. The first innings of the fourth Test saw Ash grab a six-wicket haul (6/91), which took him past Anil Kumble (111 wickets vs AUS) as India’s leading wicket-taker against a Test opponent.

Gill, Kohli the professors of 'The India batting masterclass'

Shubman Gill opened the floodgates of India’s fightback with the bat, laying the foundation with a century. Gill would then pass the baton to Virat Kohli, with the talismanic player battling an illness to notch his 28th Test century and the 75th ton of his international career. Personally, it ended a drought of 1205 days without a triple-figure score in red-ball cricket.

Axar’s Test all-rounder credentials skyrocket

Axar Patel is turning out to be a lucky charm for India, and we can confidently say that. His 79 and 162-run sixth-wicket partnership with Virat Kohli in the first innings turned the tide of the fourth Test in India’s favour.

With the ball, he may have taken a wicket in either innings but he ended up being the fastest Indian to 50 Test wickets in terms of balls bowled (2,205).

It’s all fair and square at Ahmedabad

Travis Head (90) and Marnus Labuschagne (63) lead Australia’s batting charge on Day 5 and helped grind out a draw.

This meant the visitors ended up losing the Border Gavaskar Trophy (1-2) for the fourth straight time! Bring on The Oval! India have their 2021 scores to settle as well.

Brief Scores
