GL vs SRH – Match Report

The only unbeaten side in this year’s IPL, Gujarat Lions, took one Sunrisers Hyderabad in their fourth match. Coming into this match with 100% record in the IPL GL has surprised everyone with their gritty performance. On the other hand, SRH’s 2016 IPL campaign was resurrected, thanks to scintillating knock from the captain, David Warner. SRH won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Aaron Finch who was the leading scorer for GL took strike and after three dot deliveries, he was dismissed by a ball that jagged in from Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Suresh Raina who came in at no. 3, his ideal IPL spot, was in mood to spare the bowlers. SRH showed some discipline in their bowling, allowing only 50 runs in the power-play. After 6 overs, SRH started making inroads and kept getting crucial wickets at regular intervals which did not allow GL to get a momentum in the innings. Raina played the innings of an anchor as he scored 75 runs off 51 balls which included nine fours. He did not get much support from the other end as GL managed to set a target of 136.

Sunrisers Hyderabad had to make sure they don’t collapse as the southpaw duo of David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan came in to bat. The two have a pretty similar playing style, but the form was very different. David Warner had played a match-defining innings just in his previous match against Mumbai Indians. Shikhar took his time and settled while his captain was aggressive at the other end. Shikhar showed his grit and determination as he hung in there, playing a slow innings which was opposite to his character. The two chased down the target with 5 overs to spare registering the first 10 wicket victory for any team this IPL. Sunrisers Hyderabad has been performing out of their skins. The result is in-front of them as they stand 4th on the Table, above Mumbai Indians. David Warner and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have both excelled in their respective departments making them the Orange and Purple cap holder after this game.
