MI to kickstart their remaining IPL campaign against CSK
The Indian Premier League is all set to resume on 19th September 2021 as per the schedule released by the governing council. The tournament is set to return back after it was postponed indefinitely due to the pandemic.
Returning to the UAE, the remaining games will take place at three venues namely Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. MI will be resuming their campaign from where they left in May with four wins out of seven matches.
The remainder of the season will continue to be played behind closed doors. There will be seven double-headers with games starting at 3:30 PM and 7:30 PM respectively according to Indian Standard Time. The men in Blue and Gold will play three matches at Abu Dhabi and two matches each at Dubai and Sharjah.
MI's schedule for second phase of IPL 2021
Defending champions Mumbai Indians will resume their IPL 2021 journey against Chennai Super Kings on 19th September at Dubai. Both teams played a thrilling last-ball encounter at Delhi where Kieron Pollard's 87* (34) made the difference.
MI will then travel Abu Dhabi to face KKR on 23rd September, against whom they have a great record with 22 wins. The men in Blue and Gold created a great turnaround with some brilliant death bowling during their clash at Chennai.
MI and RCB will then contest against each other on 26th September in Dubai. Out of 30 encounters between both sides, Mumbai Indians have emerged victorious on 19 occasions. Both teams contested the first game of IPL 2021 which was won by RCB.
Mumbai Indians will come back to Abu Dhabi where they face Punjab Kings on 28th September. MI will look to come back stronger against them after losing their initial encounter.
The team will then travel to Sharjah where they have two fixtures against Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. The match against DC will be MI's maiden afternoon game in the second phase of IPL. Delhi who are currently at the top of the points table had defeated MI in their previous outing.
The Rohit Sharma-led side will play their final fixture on 8th October against Sunrisers Hyderabad in an afternoon game at Abu Dhabi. It will also mark the end of Mumbai Indians' campaign for the group stage.
The playoffs will be held from 10th October. Dubai will host the first Qualifier while the Eliminator and the second Qualifier will be held at Sharjah. The IPL final will be played at the Dubai International Stadium on 15th October, 2021.
