MIvGG report: A 193-run chase? No problem! Ft. The Kaurs and Carey
8-0 it is!
Stretching over four seasons, this is some streak. It’s a proud streak. The Mumbai Indians are still to be beaten by the Gujarat Giants in the Women’s Premier League, and well, we ain’t letting it happen tonight!
There’s nothing more pleasing than a big chase done right. This, from Mumbai Indians, was as right as it could get. From setting the tone at the top, to timing the aggressive hit, to pacing out this entire chase, we’ve absolutely nailed it. No stress. No tension. Just pure calculative batting
Oh we missed you, Hayley
Back from the niggle that kept her out of the first two games, Hayley Matthews wasted no time in announcing herself with her clean hitting. Three fours, a six in her 12-ball 22, and the tone for the stiff chase was set. With the ball too, she came back strongly in her second spell, getting the wicket of the dangerous Kanika Ahuja.
Okay, the Kaurs first
The Gujarat Giants had a big finish in the last few overs with Georgia Wareham and Bharti Fulmali lifting them to a strong 192/5 in their 20 overs. The Kaurs weren’t ones to be worried. Amanjot – getting a promotion to number three – grabbed the opportunity with both hands, smashing seven boundaries to ensure the asking rate was always under check. Kaur Sr. was happy to play second fiddle at first, but then turned the heat on the spinners after Amanjot fell. Her fifty came off 33 balls, and it was only fitting that she hit the winning runs to finish at 71 off 43 balls.
Harman’s love affair with the Giants’ bowling
So here’s Harman’s role against the Gujarat Giants in making it 8-0.

And Carey then matches the Kaurs…
…stroke for stroke. Nicola Carey just seems to be loving her promotion to number five. In another superb, nerve-calming knock of 38 off just 23 balls, she ensured the scoring didn’t dip after Amanjot fell, matching Harman shot for shot, and taking us home with four balls to spare.
