Pandya brothers strike it rich
The Pandya brothers have reasons to rejoice. While Hardik Pandya has been picked in the 15-member squad for the one-off Test against Afghanistan in Bengaluru from June 14 to 18, Krunal Pandya has broken into the India ‘A’ squad for the one-day series in the UK.
Hardik will miss the company of Mumbai Indians mates Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah for the historic fixture against Afghanistan as the duo has been rested. But the troika is set to reunite as they have been selected for the three-match T20I series against Ireland, the three-match T20I series against England as well as the three-match ODI series against England.
Ajinkya Rahane will lead India in the one-off Test match as the senior selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India decided to rest regular skipper Virat Kohli for the same. There are no new faces in the Test squad. However, the selectors have rewarded pacer Siddarth Kaul with a place in all three limited-overs squads. Ambati Rayudu and Umesh Yadav have also made a comeback.
Krunal has been rewarded for his consistent performances for Mumbai Indians in the VIVO IPL as well Baroda in domestic cricket. An all-rounder in every sense of the word, Krunal is often called ‘Mr Utility’ for his ability to bat and ball in any situation.
