Pattinson: Bumrah, world’s best T20 bowler; Boult up there too

Excitement has been on a high in the MI camp ever since Australian pacer James Pattinson was roped into the team. The right-arm bowler has finally hit the nets after finishing his designated quarantine period.

First training session

The Aussie took some time off from his first training session with the Men in Blue & Gold to speak to MITV about playing in the UAE, being a part of the Mumbai Indians team and working with Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult.

“It’s a privilege to come over and be part of one of the most successful (Dream11) IPL team. The first day out of quarantine, I had seven days inside, so it was good to have a light bowl with Boulty,” he said.

It’s always a great party when the best in the business come together for a great game. And clearly, Pattinson is looking forward to it. “Personally, it’s just fantastic to work with some of the best bowlers in the world. Burmah’s probably the best T20 bowler in the world and Boulty is up there as well.”

Playing in the UAE

Pattinson recalls his experience of playing in UAE in the past. “I have played a few One Day Internationals here before, so I have a bit of experience over here in UAE. There are obviously different wickets, a lot drier and only three are being used during the tournament so they might be a bit slower and lower as the tournament goes on.”

“Maybe the slower ball and stuff might come into play a lot more. As a fast bowler you’re just trying to bang the wicket as hard as possible and change of pace and bowl fast. That’s the thing with T20 cricket.”

Ready for the IPL kickoff

Much like Paltan, Pattinson, too, is looking forward to Mumbai Indians’ first IPL game on September 19th against Chennai Super Kings. “I know the games are just around the corner, so, I hope to lift the intensity and hopefully I’m ready to go.”
