Post the auction, our Head Coach Luke Williams reflected on how things panned out for the Mumbai Indians in Kochi, the thinking behind the picks and the exciting possibilities that lie ahead.
Firstly, sharing his thoughts on how the Mumbai Indians did at the auction. Luke said, “Really excited with how the auction went by for us at MI. We came into the auction with a core group that we had already retained. So, we were keen to add some depth in different positions and we feel we have achieved that.”
He further reflected on MI achieving its key targets at the auction, “We bid for Kiran Navgire early on but unfortunately missed out. But after that we were successful with a lot of our targets. Really happy with how things unfolded for us.”
Revealing, what impressed him about all six youngsters that Mumbai Indians snapped up recently. Luke stated, “Our scouting network has identified the players and further through trials we have observed them carefully. We were really impressed with their attitude and skill level. We think they will fit into the MI family really well.”
Speaking about Mumbai Indians getting the uncapped Indian players…he expressed, “We were certainly open to different sorts of players in the auction, capped and uncapped! Going into the upcoming season and having some uncapped talented players will be exciting. It will also be interesting to see how they go about and develop in the MI set up.”
Finally, Luke signed off by expressing his thoughts on having Aapli Mumbaikar Saanika Chalke in the squad. He highlighted, “Saanika, the left-handed batter adds a lot of depth to our squad. Also, being a local Mumbai player is a great thing as well. I am sure she is very excited as much as we are to have her in the Mumbai Indians team.”
