Records galore in the WIvIND T20I Series

The first ever T20I series between India and West Indies in the US was a resounding success and West Indies played good cricket to triumph 1-0 in the 2 game series. The first game was an exciting high scoring affair while the second was abandoned due to rain with India in a good position. There were quite a few records shattered in the series and here are some of them.

Jasprit Bumrah made his debut for India only in 2016 and has since come on in leaps and bounds. He took a total of 4 wickets in the 2 T20Is in this series and has now taken 28 wickets in the year 2016. This is the most by any bowler in 2016 and is also the most taken by any bowler in a calendar year since the inception of T20Is in 2005. Bumrah got off to a slow start in the first T20I but since then he has executed his yorkers to perfection to put the brakes on the West Indian scoring.

Rohit Sharma too had a good series. He has now scored 964 runs as an opener for India in T20Is—eclipsing Gautam Gambhir who has 932 runs to his name. He played both pace and spin with equal aplomb and now only needs 36 runs to score 1000 runs as an opener for India in T20Is. He is now 12th in the all-time list of runs scored by an opener in T20Is.

Around a year ago there were doubts regarding the ability of KL Rahul but he has answered his detractors in style by proving his ability to adapt and perform consistently in all formats. When he reached his century in the first T20I he became the third Indian to score a century in all international formats of the game after Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma. He reached his century in 46 balls which is the joint 2nd fastest in T20Is along with Faf Du Plessis. Richard Levi holds the record for the fastest century in T20Is when he scored a century in 45 balls for South Africa against New Zealand at Hamilton in 2012. During the first T20I, Evin Lewis scored his century in 48 balls which is the 6th fastest T20I century of all time.

India’s total of 244/4 in the first T20I was the highest by a team batting second in a T20I. 489 runs were scored in the first T20I by both teams combined which is a record for the maximum aggregate runs scored by both teams in a T20I.
