SKY fifty not enough to take MI past RCB

We fell to a fourth loss of Tata IPL 2022 as RCB chased down 151 to climb to third in the points table.

Suryakumar Yadav top-scored with an unbeaten 68 off 37 balls - his second-consecutive fifty in just his second match of the season - but it was not enough.

RCB won the toss and put us into bat. Our openers - captain Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan - started with a bang as they shared a 50-run opening stand.

After a measured start, Rohit and Ishan took apart Mohammad Siraj and Wanindu Hasaranga in the third and fourth overs, taking 29 runs. We scored 49 in the powerplay.

However, Rohit was caught and bowled off  a slower one from Harshal Patel right after the powerplay. We then lost four more wickets quickly.

Hasaranga plucked Dewald Brevis and Kieron Pollard with googlies while Akash Deep dismissed Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma was run out.

SKY then shared a short partnership with debutant Ramandeep Singh before the latter was caught behind off Harshal Patel.

SKY was then joined by another debutant Jaydev Unadkat and understandably dominated the strike, hitting boundaries in every over starting with the 14th. He brought his half-century in the 18th over.

The late onslaught from SKY took us to a respectable 151.

In response, our bowlers also started strongly, giving away just 30 runs in the powerplay although we didn’t pick any wickets.

The breakthrough arrived in the ninth over as Unadkat bowled a slower one to opposing captain Faf du Plessis, who holed out to SKY at long-on.

Virat Kohli and young opener Anuj Rawat then stitched together an 80-run stand as Ro brought on different bowlers to try and break the partnership.

It was finally broken when Ramandeep Singh’s throw from mid-wicket caught Anuj Rawat short after the opener had scored his maiden Tata IPL fifty.

Ro then brought Brevis on for some leg-spin and he trapped Kohli in front of the wicket with his first ball in the Tata IPL.

Glenn Maxwell then hit two boundaries off Brevis to take RCB home.

Our next league match will be against the Punjab Kings on April 13th at the MCA stadium in Pune.
