SRH vs DD – Match Report

The hosts Sunrisers Hyderabad were looking for their fifth consecutive win this season when they faced the Delhi Daredevils. DD was without the services of their captain Zaheer Khan, who was sidelined due to illness. The stand-in skipper JP Duminy, did well at the toss as he called it right and chose to bowl first.

The left-handed duo of David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan started off well to provide their team yet another good start. They were scoring briskly as they managed 51 runs off the first 6 overs. The uncapped, Jayant Yadav, got the wicket of the dangerous Warner 46(30) when he tried to cut him off a quicker delivery. Kane Williamson and Shikhar Dhawan slowly and steadily tried to put SRH on course, to a big total but the in-form Amit Mishra struck. After the fall of openers, SRH couldn’t have a stable partnership, which hurt their chances of a big score. Williamson 27(24) held one end but kept losing partners at the other end. DD bowlers did well to pick up wickets and stem the flow of runs to choke the SRH batsmen who could only manage 143/8.

DD knew what they had to do from the beginning and did not lose the target from their sight. Even though they lost Mayank Agarwal early in the innings, Quinton De Kock and Karun Nair did well with a 55 runs partnership stand for the second wicket. De Kock was a bit careful in the beginning but opened up later, as he picked regular boundaries. Moises Henriques disrupted the flow of innings when he got the two set batsmen out to give SRH a whiff. But, Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant batted sensibly to take DD home with almost 2 over’s to spare. It was an average effort from the SRH bowlers, who couldn’t pick up wickets like they usually do. Daredevils will face the defending champions in their next game, at Vizag.
