Day 5 of Mumbai Indians’ training camp saw the players indulge in high-performance drills. Having done a few fielding drills over the last few days, Jonty Rhodes upped the ante in today’s session. The theme of the day was effective teamwork. Each player was asked to pick the ball up and relay it to another player, who would then try to effect a run out. The drill demanded immense levels of coordination between the players, teamwork, and concentration; something very reminiscent of Jonty Rhodes.
After having a few sessions within the nets over the past few days, batsmen were allowed to have open net sessions today. Fielders were spread out across the field, so that batsmen experienced the feel of a real-match situation. The bowlers also got an indication of a field they could bowl to.
Krunal Pandya, who has been in fine touch and has match practice on his side, joined the training camp today. The southpaw showed excellent form in the net session, reminding us of some of his moments to fame in the last VIVO IPL season. With each day of training, our boys are getting sharper and they are raring to go, as the preparations build in anticipation of our first match-day, on 6th April against Rising Pune Supergiant.
