“We all will fight as a team till the very end”: Mahela Jayawardene

Another tough outing for us Paltan, as things ended on a disappointing note versus the Chennai Super Kings once again in the reverse fixture. They cruised to an eight-wicket victory putting us on the backfoot. It was a night where unfortunately momentum slipped early and never quite returned our way. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Mumbai Indians’ Head Coach, Mahela Jayawardene, acknowledged the shortcomings, pointed out the missed opportunities but remained firm and positive that Mumbai Indians will continue to fight till the very end of the season. 💙

Analyzing what went wrong for the Men in Blue and Gold versus CSK, Mahela said, “The first 10 overs, we were in a good place. The wicket was on the slower side and it got difficult to score runs as the ball turned a little soft. Once we started losing too many wickets upfront, we lost our way in the middle. We were behind the par score. On the other hand, we should have got early wickets. That could have kept us in the hunt.”

Sharing his thoughts about Tilak Varma not being amongst the runs in today’s clash, he reflected, “Look he did well in Ahmedabad and also scored a century. It is all about trying to get consistent with the bat. The more he plays, the more he will learn from his mistakes.”

Backing our prime bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, he shared, “It is all about a collective effort from the whole bowling unit. Sometimes players do have seasons where they start off on a slow note. Class is going to be permanent. Every cricketer pushes hard; it is just a phase that Boom is going through.”

“We have five more games; we need to finish the tournament positively. We are still not out of the tournament mathematically. We all will fight as a team till the very end.” ✊
