WPL Match 5 | UPWvMI: Instant redemption on the cards

There couldn’t be a faster way to put a loss behind us. Same opposition, same venue, in less than 48 hours, and we can safely get back on the winning track, forgetting that we ever got off it. We have a couple of games in our den in Navi Mumbai before we head to Vadodara, and with the Paltan back in the stands to back us for this game, we will give it our all to turn the tables against the UP Warriorz.

We had a few good things going for us in the previous game: a strong finish with the bat, a solid comeback with the ball, some good fielding. The bowling of Sanskriti Gupta, who managed to keep it tight in the chase against the UPW batters who were striking it really well was another massive checkbox ticked in our scouting-and-backing system. There’s also a nice happy headache the team management has been having to pick the four overseas players, with each of Nat Sciver-Brunt, Amelia Kerr, Hayley Matthews, Nicola Carey and Shabnim Ismail, being as gun as the other. To a fresh start .. Bola, Ganpati Bappa Moryaa!!

What: UP Warriorz vs Mumbai Indians

When: January 17, 2026 | 3:00pm IST

Where: DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai

What to expect: This one is an afternoon game, which means the dew discussion is out of the window. The pitch continues to be a good one for batting, but appears to have slowed down a touch from what it was in the first week. Nevertheless, it should be another cracker!
