White ball out. Red ball in. Coloured clothing out. Whites in.
So the ODI series didn’t really go as planned as the Men in Blue went down in the first two matches. But true to our style, we bounced back in grand fashion in the final fixture, courtesy a record-shattering double century from Ishan Kishan.
Never mind. The format has changed. And two Tests await. With the England side now on a rampage, the equation for India to make it to the finals of the World Test Championship is to win each of their remaining six Tests! Well, let’s start here in Chattogram.
But the sad news is that skipper Rohit Sharma is ruled out of the opening match due to the injury he picked up in the second ODI. He is back in India right now and the medics are making sure he can take the field in the next Test. Until our Hitman gets back to full fitness, KL Rahul will take up the leadership role.
Nonetheless, the two teams now face off in a format where the Bangla Tigers have never won against India. YES! In 11 matches between the two sides, Team India has won nine while two matches were drawn as the tourists look to maintain their dominance against their neighbours.
What: Bangladesh vs India, two-match Test series
When: December 14-18, December 22-26
Where: Chattogram (first Test) and Dhaka (second Test)
What they said:
“Rohit Sharma is a very important player for us and an experienced player and captain of our team so we will miss him. India will miss Rohit as a captain and batsman, we are hoping that he can recover quickly and will be back for the 2nd Test.” - India’s stand-in captain KL Rahul
What to expect: With a couple of new faces in the squad in the form of Abhimanyu Easwaran and Saurabh Kumar alongside the old guns, expect Team India to opt for a balanced squad. Moreover, Virat Kohli’s blistering 72nd hundred came at the perfect time, giving India and him a much-needed morale boost ahead of the first Test.
What you need to do: Sit back, chillax and soak in the beauty of Test cricket as the Men in Blue will don the whites for the first time in a while. Let’s rewind the clock and go into the world of defences, blocks, leaves, plays and misses, the ball swinging around. Ah, bring it on!
