Antim Sthanak: WPL FINAL
Less than 24 hours remain. After years in the making, and now four weeks of proper cricketing madness, where we’ve flowed through every possible emotion, it’s all down to this! A nice buildup to the final too, with the country’s economic hub and the political capital at loggerheads to stamp their supremacy. The top two teams in the league stage! Two cricket superpowers.
The occasion is huge. The mountain in front of us is big. But hey, there is nothing to worry about because our trekkers are well-prepared for anything that might come their way. The roles are clearly defined, the strategies are in place, and the momentum is again back with us. Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews have been giving us good starts, and then the middle-order engine is powered by Nat-Harman-Amelia, who have been pumping runs for us. Not to forget what Pooja and Issy can do at the end with their envious hard-hitting abilities. Finally, coming down to our bowlers – Hayley, Wong, Amelia, and Saika – are all in a friendly race for that coveted Purple Cap.
We cannot take Delhi lightly. They are the only team in the tournament who’ve handed us a pretty bad thrashing in one game, something that jolted our NRR to the extent that we couldn’t qualify directly for the final. Their captain Meg Lanning has been leading from the front with an Orange Cap on her head. Shafali Verma and Alice Capsey have looked in good touch. And with star all-rounders in Marizanne Kapp and Jess Jonassen, their side looks complete. Besides, they wear their hearts on their sleeves while fielding! Remember that Jemimah blinder to get rid of Hayley?
It’s nice to know your opponent. And boy, trust us, we do know them!
What to expect: A feisty battle between the two best teams of this WPL. It is pretty even steven at the moment as both the outfits have got the better of one another once apiece in this competition. With a host of big names set to take the field, expect truckloads of fireworks and jaw-dropping entertainment enveloped in an electric packed house.
Where: Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai
When: March 26, 2023 - 7.30 PM IST
What you need to do: Secretly, get your fireworks ready to burst. It’s not a jinx, it’s just that we need to sort the after party as well right! Okay, before that, you aren’t allowed to do anything other than what you’ve done through the season. Your pre-match superstitions, mid-match stuff, and the post-match routine HAVE TO remain the same.
There is a lot of history when we talk about Harman and Lanning and big championships. Remember the finals of the 2020 T20 World Cup in Australia and the Commonwealth Games 2022 in England? It’s time to settle scores, skip.
