Our Captain's journey in IPL 2016

By Mumbai Indians

One of the most naturally gifted batsmen in the world, Rohit Sharma is a prolific run-getter in all formats of the game. Not only does he possess immense talent but he also scores his runs with grace and elegance. Since 2011, Rohit has been an integral part of the Mumbai Indians, helping the team win on several occasions. He took over the team’s captaincy a couple of games into the 2013 season and led us to our maiden IPL title. In the same year, we also completed the grand double when we clinched the Champions League T20 trophy. The Hitman’s captaincy was put to test in the 2015 season after the team won just one of the first six games and was struggling to stay afloat. It was then that the Mumbai Indians staged a remarkable turnaround and lifted the trophy for the second time with a convincing win in the final.

Leading a team with new faces is never an easy task, but our captain with the help of our expert support staff, has done a stellar job so far. Rohit’s ability to turn vision into reality has been a blessing for the Paltan . A person of few words, Sharma has an extraordinary ability to make the team click. He has to be credited for the recent run of form too. After a shaky start, the defending champions have picked up the pace, winning three games in a row. With matches being played every 2-3 days, answering the media also becomes a task. Being under constant scrutiny, the captain has managed his off field duty well without letting it affect his captaincy or batting. It’s safe to say that Sharma has established himself as a captain who is here to lead Mumbai Indians for many years to come.

While captaincy is a major role which Rohit has been playing, nothing can be taken away from his batting. He was ready to accept the decision of dropping down the order if the team management wanted him to do so. However, much to the fans’ relief, Rohit has remained at the top and made sure that the team gets off to solid starts. In 9 games, Sharma has aggregated 383 runs, at an average of 63.83. Of these runs, 364 have been scored while chasing, exemplifying the Hitman’s love for a good chase. Not just now but throughout his career, Rohit has constantly let his willow do the talking. He recently became only the second Indian to amass over 6000 T20 runs.

Our captain has lead from the front and has taken this confidence with the bat into his captaincy which has helped instill confidence in the team dressing room. The defending champions, with a level headed captain, will be looking to reclaim the IPL crown yet again this season!
