Champs Behind The Scenes

By Mumbai Indians

We have built good momentum towards the second half of this IPL. Our support staff has played an important role in amplifying the team’s performance. Let’s take a look at the individuals who are responsible for this turnaround.

Shane Bond

The former Kiwi pacer, Shane Bond, is currently our bowling coach. He has done a fantastic job with the bowlers this season. Despite not having the services of our strike bowler, Lasith Malinga, the bowling department has put together a commendable performance. The MI bowling unit has achieved the biggest feat this season by restricting the batsmen well beyond the par score. Keeping a Virat Kohli quiet in both encounters against RCB is something to be proud of and testament to Shane Bond’s strategy. Bowlers have executed the plans to perfection, delivering results which gave us constant success in the latter half of the tournament. His good work can be seen in the wicket takers column, as Mitchell McClenaghan leads the pack and Jasprit Bumrah follows him in the top 10.

Robin Singh

The former fielding coach for India is the current assistant batting coach for MI. He spends a lot of time with the batsmen, working on their technique and providing them with important tips. He also helps them with getting mentally prepared, as it is equally important. We have put in good batting performances throughout the tournament and most importantly it has come from all members of the team, thanks to Robin’s diligent work.

Jonty Rhodes

The legendary South African, Jonty Rhodes is known to be one of the best fielders of his time. Nicknamed ‘Superman’, Jonty helps the team especially the youngsters with their fielding and catching. A taskmaster on the field, Jonty makes the team work hard, day in and day out. The effort that you see on the field, like the relay catches, and the diving stops is all credit to this Proteas legend.

Ricky Ponting

Last but not the least, Ricky Ponting, whose list of achievements as a player is never ending, has now assumed the role of head coach for MI. He has led the Australian team to countless trophies, and now he is looking to guide MI to their third IPL trophy. He is the one who strategizes with the captain, on the eve of every match. He also has his control on major aspects like the playing XI and maintaining the morale of the team when the team is not doing well.

These coaches have worked relentlessly behind the scenes. They work in the background and let the players take the centre stage. It’s time for us to acknowledge their contribution to the team’s performance first by getting a spot in the playoffs and then by winning it for them.
