Dreams to dominance: Kaptaan Kaur’s girls create history at Lord’s

By Mumbai Indians

The historic balcony at Lord’s has witnessed countless memorable matches and iconic celebrations over the years and now it has another story to tell.  At the Home of Cricket in England, where legends have been forged for generations, our very own Mumbaichi Mulgi Harmanpreet Kaur and her team entered record books that will inspire future generations to come. Lords witnessed its first ever women’s Test Match which ended with India, the visitors snapping a massive 270 runs victory against England on 13th July 2026. 💙

India’s above margin of win is the fourth largest in terms of runs in women’s Tests. Batting during their first innings, India notched up 285 all out in 74.5 overs. Smriti Mandhana contributed a magical 83 while Kaptaan Kaur made 58 and Deepti Sharma scored 57. In reply, England only managed to score 170 all out in 59.1 overs. Right arm fast medium Kranti Gaud’s name entered the Lords Honours Board as she grabbed a five-for, 5/37 in 17 overs which included seven maidens at an economy of just 2.2. This was just the fifth five wicket haul for an Indian seamer in women’s Tests. 👑

Further, batting during their second innings India declared at 341/7. Yastika Bhatia notched up a brilliant ton, 113 in 158 balls, 14 fours, Smriti Mandhana playing her 300th international game, the youngest women’s cricketer to reach this milestone made 70 while Richa Ghosh remained unbeaten on 50. In the process, Yastika became the first Indian batter to register a hundred in the third or fourth innings of a women’s Test. She also became the second Indian to register a hundred as wicketkeeper in women’s Tests. Indeed, a proud moment for her as her name was etched on the Lords Honours Board. Also, with scores of 83 and 70, Smriti became the fourth Indian with 50 plus scores in both innings of a women’s Test. 👏

During the final innings, England were bundled out for 186 in 62.5 overs as Sneh Rana picked 4/42. India won the contest by 270 runs. India’s total of 626 runs (combined score of both innings) made it their second highest Test match aggregate. Kranti Gaud bagged the Player of the Match award for her splendid show with the ball.

Leading from the front, Harmanpreet proved why she is the heartbeat of this Indian side. She weathered the pressure with a composed and crucial half century while her great captaincy also stood out…sharp fielding placements, rotating the bowlers well that kept India strongly ahead of England at all times. Calm when it mattered and aggressive when the opportunity demanded. She added another glorious chapter to her legacy as Kaptaan Kaur. 💪

A commanding win, countless memories and another milestone for Indian women’s cricket. Years from now whenever conversations turn to iconic moments at Lords, India’s triumph will have its special place. When India picked that final wicket, to seal the deal, it sparked celebrations, but also marked the beginning of something even bigger. A side that continues to break barriers, rewrite records and inspire billions with another unforgettable chapter to its journey.
