ENGvIND 4th T20I report: Brook-Salt hand India another disappointing evening

By Mumbai Indians

Another off day for India, where unfortunately nothing went according to the plan as England won the 4th T20I at Bristol by 9 wickets. Paltan, believe…we shall come back stronger. India’s Axar Patel featured in his 100th T20I while Shreyas Iyer was amongst the runs with an unbeaten 80(49). India will now be looking to play for pride as the final game of the series will be held at Southampton…

England hold upper hand

A disciplined bowling show from the Englishmen ensured they did not leak too many runs during the first 10 overs of India’s innings. The Men in Blue lost three quick wickets upfront as Jofra Archer, Josh Tongue and Adil Rashid all snapped one wicket each. With 71/3 in 10 overs, the visitors were then cautious with their shot selection.

Shreyas-Shivam steadies the India ship

Captain Shreyas Iyer along with Shivam Dube took on the charge, played shots along the ground and rotated the strike well. They stitched a 53 runs partnership for the fourth wicket, thus bringing India back into the contest. The ‘S’ factor worked in the middle as the scoreboard kept ticking with runs. Will Jacks then picked up the key wicket of Shivam Dube (22) who was looking to go for a big shot, but instead the top edge was caught by Tom Banton.

Skipper Shreyas leads from the front, scores a crucial half-ton

Indeed, a captain’s knock under pressure…Shreyas waited for the deliveries in his arc to pelt them over the park. Some exceptional monster hits came off his bat during the latter half of the contest. He scored an unbeaten 80 in 49 balls, aced with four fours and five maximums. He knew which bowlers to target and stuck to his game plan which eventually helped India get that 42 runs added boost during the 16th to 20th over phase.

India scored 158/7 in their 20 overs.

Brook-Salt seal the deal for England

English skipper Harry Brook along with opener Phil Salt, started smashing right from the very beginning. They played fearless cricket all through, ensuring England were always in a commanding position. Both together took on the India bowlers upfront…stitching a 146 runs stand between themselves. Harry Brook remained unbeaten on 79(35) with eight fours and four sixes, SR of 225.71, while Phil Salt contributed a brisk 42 balls 59, nine fours and one maximum. It was just not meant to be for the Men in Blue as England got the job done, chasing 159/1 in 13.5 overs thus winning the contest by 9 wickets, and lead the series 3-0.
