Hetmyer, Hope register record chase at Chepauk

By Mumbai Indians

The Men in Maroon began the 50 over series with a fantastic victory over the hosts. The No.2 ranked ODI team was taken down by the ninth-placed ODI side in what was a stupendous batting show.

Here are the five talking points of the game:

Sheldon Cottrell strikes twice

After starting his spell with consecutive maiden overs, Sheldon Cottrell used his slower delivery to perfection as KL Rahul ended up mishitting one in the air. In the very same over, the left-arm pacer got the better of Indian captain Virat Kohli.

Shreyas Iyer owning the No.4 position

Coming in at No.4, after the Men in Blue were reduced to 25/2, Shreyas Iyer displayed some stellar show with the bat. He put up a crucial knock of 70 to help India recover from an early slump.

Rishabh Pant makes it count

After facing so much criticism for his temperament, Rishabh Pant brought up his first ODI fifty as he scored a splendid 71 (69). He and Iyer put up a 114-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

The Shimron Hetmyer Show

While Sunil Ambris was dismissed cheaply, Shimron Hetmyer prolonged his stay at the crease and paced his innings superbly. Once he started going bonkers, it became difficult to stop him as he slammed the spinners and seamers out of the park at will. He scored a magnificent 139 runs from just 106 balls.

Slow but steady Shai Hope

The wicketkeeper-batsman began slow and allowed Hetmyer to take on the acceleration. He registered an impressive ton and more importantly combined for a match-winning partnership of 218 runs for the second wicket.

The series will head to Vizag where India will play to stay alive on December 18.
