After clinching the T20I series 2-1, the Indian cricket team will look to continue their aggressive approach in the upcoming three-match ODI series against England starting on Tuesday, July 12.

Under the leadership of captain Rohit Sharma, India showcased a fearless approach in the recently-concluded T20I series, similar to the template followed by the England white-ball outfit.

England’s high-risk brand of cricket has redefined the way ODIs have been played recently, with teams trying to replicate the philosophy of the Eoin Morgan-led side, which claimed their maiden 50-over ICC World Cup title in 2019.

Meanwhile, the Indian team’s last ODI assignment saw them whitewash West Indies 3-0 at home earlier in February.

The likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Mohammed Shami, Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna are back for the England ODI series after failing to make the cut in the Indian T20I squad.

On the other hand, England will be boosted with the return of their star players Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root.

Ahead of the three-match ODI series, here are some of the talking points:

India’s impressive head-to-head record vs England in ODIs

India have a superior head-to-head record against England in ODIs, winning 55 of the 103 matches that they have played so far. England have secured 43 victories. Two matches have been tied while three matches ended in no results.

Furthermore, India won the previous ODI series against England 2-1 at home last year.

Players to watch out

After smashing his maiden T20I century, Suryakumar Yadav will be one of the Indian players to watch out for. The Mumbai Indians star cricketer scored a 55-ball 117 in the third and final T20I at Trent Bridge to almost pull off an incredible run chase on Sunday.

Apart from Suryakumar Yadav, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh will be another player to keep an eye on. The 23-year-old impressed in the first T20I against England as he picked two wickets for 18 runs in 3.3 overs.

For England, all eyes will be on Jonny Bairstow. The right-handed batter has been in staggering form, smashing back-to-back hundreds in the two innings of the rescheduled fifth Test against India at Edgbaston.

The first England vs India ODI will be played at The Oval in London on Tuesday, July 12. The match will start at 5:30 PM IST.
