By Mumbai Indians

After a great start to the Women’s T20 World Cup in their first game versus Pakistan, the Indian women made it two in two during the league stage winning their second game versus Netherlands by a huge margin of 95 runs at Headingley, Leeds on 17th June 2026. This is the first meeting between India and Netherlands in WT20’s. India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur played her 199th T20 game. Exceptional half tons from openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma ensured India notched up 209/5 in 20 overs.  Later, Shree Charani became the ninth Indian bowler to bag a four-fer in the Women’s T20 World Cup. Deepti Sharma becomes the joint highest wicket taker in women’s international cricket, (355 wickets) along with India great Jhulan Goswami. India won by 95 runs.

Smriti smashes back-to-back half-tons, stitches 115 runs opening stand with Shafali

India’s vice-captain Smriti Mandhana makes elegance look effortless in the middle while opening the innings. Timing the ball to perfection and finding gaps with ease…she amassed another half ton in style. Her 74 came off just 47 balls, with 11 fours and one maximum. The sixth fifty plus score for Smriti in Women’s T20 World Cup. She also became the first player to hit 600 fours in T20’s. Her knock blended composure with controlled aggression as she ensured the score board kept ticking with runs. Her phenomenal performance earned her the player of the match award. Together, along with Shafali Verma, 115 runs opening stand was stitched, hence putting a lot of pressure on Netherlands bowlers early on.

Shafali’s explosive fifty filled with flair and firepower

The young opener Shafali Verma brought in her trademark shots from the very beginning and later notched up a sparkling half century, 55 in 38 balls aced with 10 fours. She took the attack back to the opposition with fearless stroke play providing the momentum very quickly in the power play. Also, India garnered 59/0, the highest score between overs one to six at the T20 World Cup.

Richa’s cameo knock powers India to big total

Luck favoured Richa Ghosh on the given day as she was dropped early on, later she went onto score a quick fire 20 not out in eight balls with two sixes. Her classic show ensured India crossed the 200 runs mark. Richa has also scored the most runs (493 runs) in overs 16 to 20 in WT20’s since 2025.

India notched up 209/5 in their 20 overs, Netherlands Caroline de Lange grabbed 2/32 in her four overs.

Shree Charani dominates with the ball, bagging a four-fer

Though Netherlands started their innings well, they faltered in the middle losing wickets in bulk. From 34/1 in 4.2 overs they were reduced to 114/8 in 16.6 overs. Left arm orthodox spinner Shree Charani was fabulous with the ball, keeping things simple in the middle and sticking to her plan. In the process she was rewarded with a four-wicket haul, 4/19 in her four overs with an economy of 4.8.

Shafali steals the show, this time with the ball

An all-round show from Shafali Verma, first with the bat and then with the ball made her the stand out performer of the game. She came from behind and grabbed a three-wicket haul, 3/20 in just 2.8 overs with an economy of just 6.

Netherlands were bowled out for 114 all out in 17.3 overs. India is now at the top of the points table with four points from two matches, with a NRR of 3.98 in group A.

The team in blue caps off a highly successful day winning all their  three games. First against Afghanistan A, followed by another victory against the Afghanistan senior team in ODI’s and then finally the women sealed it with a win versus Netherlands in the Women's T20 WC.
