INDvNZ, 2nd ODI: Rahul’s jhakaas ton in vain as NZ level the series in Rajkot

By Mumbai Indians

All square at 1-1, and the stage now shifts to Indore.

In a night where India showed fight and flair in patches, New Zealand held their nerve, chased smartly and levelled the series with a composed win in Rajkot.

Here’s the story of ODI No. 2 👇

Fast start, familiar stumble

Asked to bat first, RO and Shubman came out with positive intent and put India on the front foot early.

Boundaries flowed, timing looked effortless, and then came a phase Indian fans know all too well. A sudden collapse saw India slide from 70/0 to 118/4, shifting momentum firmly towards the visitors. The middle overs demanded calm.

KL RAHUL to the rescue

Enter KaLm Rahul. 😮‍💨

Absorbing pressure and shutting out the noise, Rahul stitched the innings together with a jhakaas 112 off just 92 balls. Clean hitting, smart rotation and impeccable composure defined his knock.

Support came at the right time too. Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy chipped in with handy cameos, pushing India to a competitive 284/7.

NZ played well! 👏

Credit where it’s due, New Zealand were outstanding.

India enjoyed a strong bowling power play, but beyond that, the visitors dictated terms. Daryl Mitchell was simply flawless, pacing his magnificent hundred to perfection.

With calm support from Will Young and Glenn Phillips, New Zealand kept the chase in control and crossed the line without allowing pressure to build.

The result leaves the series poised at 1-1, with everything to play for in the decider at Indore on Sunday. 👊

One last battle. One final push.
