RRvMI: Tilak fights, Piyush strikes, but sadly, we go down :( - As it happened

By Mumbai Indians

This was tough. We keep our chin up, go back to the drawing board and re-work on some of our learnings. Now, on to the next game against Delhi Capitals on Saturday, April 27. We go to Delhi, seeking a fresh turn in fortunes, a renewed belief of a comeback and aiming to get our campaign back on track. There's time for us to turn it around, Paltan. You know that. The world knows how dangerous MI can be. For now though, let's keep the spirits high! Good night.

11:45 PM: We fought but till the end, but it wasn't our night. Tilak Varma (65) and Nehal Wadhera (49) showcased their brilliance with the bat to elevate MI to a score of 179/9. But, with a bit of dew kicking in and the slight drizzle, the conditions proved to be against our favour as Yashasvi Jaiswal (104 not out) played the hero for Rajasthan Royals.

11:30 PM: Final four overs to go, and we need wickets. The equation? Rajasthan need 20 runs in 24 balls. Let's defend this.

Having broken an important partnership at the top of RR's batting immediately after the rain break, will Piyush Chawla gatecrash the party again? Let's manifest.

10:52 PM: HERE WE GO! Jos Buttler's attempt to punch the ball sinks as Professor PC makes the breakthrough with his trademark wrong'un.

10:45 PM: Paltan, we are back! No overs lost and the same target - to defend 179.

10:05 PM: And here comes a break. It's not the timeout but a slight drizzle of rain. There is a bit of delay. We should get some updates following an inspection at 10:45 PM.

9:58 PM: Paltan, let's come together and manifest a wicket. It is coming.

A new one to watch out in Blue and Gold

9:18 PM: A frantic final over, that saw Tilak Varma (65), Gerald Goetzee and Tim David lose their wickets to Sandeep Sharma, sees Mumbai Indians end their innings at 179/9. Now, on to our star bowlers to defend.

Warrior

8:53 PM: 49 runs from 24 balls. WHAT AN EFFORT, Nehal Wadhera! He contributed an important chunk of runs to the 99-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

8:47 PM: MR. DEPENDABLE! A half-century and becoming the youngest to 1,000 IPL runs for MI.

8:38 PM: It's raining sixes and fours in Jaipur. Something intense is brewing.....

8:30 PM: We are closing on the 100-run mark, and it's thanks to a determined 44-run partnership between left-handers Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera.

8:10 PM: Nabi departs. Yuzvendra Chahal's trick ball took a mistimed nudge of the Afghan star's bat and the RR bowler completed the catch. This dismissal would make him the first bowler to 200 IPL wickets.

8:07 PM: 50 runs on the board. Let's pick up the pace from here!

8:00 PM: A promising over - which saw Mohammad Nabi score 17 runs off Avesh Khan's first over of the evening - got MI to end the powerplay at 45/3.

7:50 PM: After providing a timely injection of confidence with a couple of boundaries, Aapla Dada Surya tried to play his signature whip over mid-wicket. But it landed in the hands of Rovman Powell at mid-on.

7:38 PM: Sandeep Sharma's fuller length ball took a nick off Ishan Kishan's bat and flew straight to Sanju Samson. The RR asked for a review and our opener would walk back as the hosts called it right.

7:34 PM: Ouch. Rohit Sharma is dismissed for six runs. The Hitman's mistimed lofted shot off Trent Boult would be collected by Sanju Samson.
