Chawla vows to put Hyderabad run-fest behind and start afresh at home

MI will play at home for the first time in IPL 2024, and it is at Wankhede where the Blue and Gold seek a change in fortunes in their form guide for the campaign.

For the first time since 2010, Mumbai Indians will take on Rajasthan Royals in their opening home fixture of the IPL and seasoned spinner Piyush Chawla spoke to the media at the pre-match conference, giving an able answer to important questions in the build-up to MIvRR on Sunday (March 31).

He spoke about the run-fest in the previous game, and the importance of putting the result behind them quickly.

“The other team’s bowlers also conceded runs. Such was the nature of the pitch and the game, so you can’t say it didn’t work out with the bowling changes that day," he said.

Another major reason he felt behind the increase in the scores was the advent of the impact player rule.

“We have seen that last year as well, that when the team scores 200-plus runs, it gives the batters the freedom to play freely. Even if the team loses wickets, they have some extra batters and that makes it difficult for the bowlers," he added.

Lastly, the fans play an important role in rallying behind a team. Having been witness to it in his storied career, Piyush commented on how the Mumbai Indians is approaching the MIvRR game.

“We have to ignore the outside noise and just focus on our cricket. Indeed, at times, the crowd plays a big role and the loyal MI fans will come and support us."

That's right, Paltan, see you at the Wankhede! Let's make it a cauldron!
