Jayawardene heaps praise on Surya, Naman for a stellar season

By Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians’ TATA IPL 2025 campaign might have come to a halt following our heartbreaking defeat in Qualifier 2 vs PBKS, but one simply can’t overlook the contributions of 2️⃣ star batters in our squad.

While Suryakumar Yadav set the record for the most successive 25+ scores in IPL history, his teammate Naman Dhir came clutch time and again with cracking cameos to provide a strong finish whenever and wherever needed! 💪

…And the MasterMInd couldn’t help but applaud the two gems of the team in the post-match press conference in Ahmedabad.

Talking about SKY, he spoke about the right-handed batter’s consistency throughout the campaign & his ability to take on pressure situations.

“I think SKY has been brilliant… very consistent and reading the game, especially in those [important] situations. He was very, very good in many different conditions as well. I think that's where the quality of the player stands out.

“For him to be that consistent in playing on different surfaces, different bowling attacks, shows what a quality T20 batter he is. A lot of the times he took the spinners down pretty well and that role was pretty crucial for us,” said MJ. 👏

Meanwhile, our Head Coach also hailed Naman Dhir, who has been a revelation for us in that finisher role, something he adapted to terrifically.

“He's been brilliant. I think we've spoken to him about this role after the auction. We knew that he might have to play this [finisher] role for us, batting at the number five or six, depending on the situation. So he worked really hard in the off-season.

“He worked really hard mentally in the pre-season as well. Naman spent a lot of time with Polly because Polly batted in that role for us in the past. He discussed the mindset and how he wants to go about it. So, he's a very versatile cricketer for us,” Mahela stated. ⚡
