Really looking forward to working with Harman - Lisa Keightley
The Mumbai Indians have announced their retention list on Thursday ahead of the fourth season of TATA WPL.
Indian World Cup-winning captain Harmanpreet Kaur, England’s Natalie Sciver-Brunt, West Indian Hayley Matthews, Indian all-rounder Amanjot Kaur and uncapped wicket-keeper batter G. Kamalini were the five players retained by the franchise ahead of the season.
Speaking about the retentions, Lisa Keightley, the newly appointed head coach of the Mumbai Indians, expressed her enthusiasm about working with World Cup-winning Indian captain, Harmanpreet Kaur.
“Getting an opportunity to work with Harman, I'm really looking forward to it. We can see what a competitor she is and how she wants to win games of cricket. She's a great leader and winning two of the last three WPL seasons shows what a great leader she has been and how she does that role very well.”
The head coach sounded optimistic about the list of players retained by the franchise while also reflecting on the challenges in shortlisting the list.
“The retention process was really tough. We went through the process of getting to the spot where we thought these were our best five retentions to set us up for another successful season.”
“I think we have got a very good core of players, players who have done well over the last three seasons of the WPL.”
“Moving forward, I look to carry forward the style of play at Mumbai and hopefully continue to be successful as we have been over the last three years,” Keightley said ahead of coaching the team for the first time in the TATA WPL season.
